Priest Appreciation Dinner a huge success
The 32nd Annual Priest Appreciation Dinner was held on July 24, on the grounds of Mount Michael Abbey in Elkhorn. Sponsored by Knights of Columbus Assembly 594, the purpose of the event according to Faithful Navigator Rob Anderson “Is simply to show the Knights of Columbus appreciation for all that our priests do for us as Catholics.” Anderson added that the event is also a great way for us as Knights to connect with Knights from other councils we have met over the years. Retired Priest Fr. Norm Hunke has been a regular attendee since the dinner was started stating “We appreciate the faithfulness of the Knights of Columbus in hosting this event every year and supporting us as Priests. It’s a great way to rekindle friendships and memories and relax for a casual evening of food, fun and camaraderie. ”The event averages 150 Knights of Columbus members and about 50 Priests from all across the Archdiocese of Omaha. It includes a social hour followed by a full steak dinner. This year, Archbishop Emeritus Elden Curtis led the opening prayer and comments. About 5 councils and 50 total volunteers supply the manpower for the event and many other councils contribute funding to offset total costs. A $2,000 check is also presented to the Archbishop to support Seminarians.
